AEO
Authorised Economic Operator status
The abbreviation “AEO” comes from the English name “Authorized Economic Operator,” which stands for Authorized Economic Operator status. AEO status is granted at the request of an entrepreneur submitted to the customs authority. The service is aimed at the entrepreneur who meets the conditions and criteria for:
- compliance with legal regulations,
- record keeping,
- financial solvency and/or
- professional competence and qualification,
- Compliance with safety and security standards.

letter of credit / letter of credit (L/C)
An instrument that facilitates cashless settlement of international trade transactions. It is a written commitment by the importer’s bank to pay the designated beneficiary (i.e., the exporter) a specified amount of money on a fixed date, provided that the beneficiary provides the intermediary bank with documents that meet the requirements of the letter of credit. It safeguards both the interests of the importer and the exporter.

Bill of lading, a maritime bill of lading. The document confirms the conclusion of the maritime transportation contract, and also serves as a document authorizing the relevant persons to receive and dispose of the rights to the goods.

Break bulk/general/conventional cargo
Conventional fineness. These are cargoes transported by liner vessels in the traditional way in boxes, cartons, bags, etc., or in bulk and without packaging (e.g., vehicles, construction materials, steel products). Ships carrying this type of cargo are called general cargo ships.

Cargo that is transported in large quantities without packaging, such as oil, grain, coal or gravel.
CFR
goods delivered aboard ship (Cost and Freight)
The seller bears the cost of transporting the goods and clears customs. Once the goods are delivered to the ship, the delivery is considered completed. Although freight is at the seller’s expense, further risk and additional costs are borne by the buyer.
CIF
Cost, Insurance and Freight
Cost, Insurance and Freight (…designated port of destination). Under this formula, the seller is considered to have delivered the goods at the moment the goods pass the bulwark of the ship at the port of loading. From then on, the risk of damage or loss of the goods rests with the buyer.

CITES
CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora)
CITES is the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, known as the Washington Convention. In Poland since 1990.
Unless otherwise provided by law, a specimen is:
- plant or animal (of a protected species), living or dead, a derived product or any part thereof
- other goods that may contain or include parts or derivatives of animals or plants belonging to these species. This is evidenced by the attached documents, label or packaging.
Specimens are considered to include:
- live animals and plants
- products made of horns, bones, teeth of animals (ivory)
- stuffed animals and hunting trophies
- Footwear and accessories made from the skins of snakes, crocodiles, varanus, etc.
- Jewelry and similar accessories containing parts of protected plants and animals
- medicines containing powdered animal or plant fragments (used in so-called Eastern medicine).
